Invited to help a victim who was gang raped whilst in Prison.

 

What was the outcome?  

Opportunity to reflect on the ethics of working with Trauma in a victimising system. Raises key themes around physical and psychological safety. The setting provides both challenges to the traumatised and to the therapist.

 

What supported the positive outcome? (systemic supports? Organizational supports? Interpersonal supports?):

The prisons system provides complex challenges to support networks as well growing an insight into the re victimising process on the custodial setting.

 

In what way has your example changed you, your practice or your goals:

The important of working ethically and to develop the capacity to grow hope.

Primarily to give voice to trauma victims in the custodial setting.

Victims needs and organisational deficits and challenges.

Not really. But flags up the challenges to work with trauma in a complex multi layered system with different agendas.

 

 

What can you or others do to spread this good practice to colleagues and services:

Conferences, publications. workshops to pool best practice. Raise awareness of the challenges of working with trauma in the custodial setting.
